Terms of Service

The agreement between you and Palatis B.V., in language you can actually read.

Last updated 2026-02-17

This document is a draft prepared for review. It describes how Palatis intends to work and is not legal advice.

These terms are the agreement between you and Palatis B.V. for the use of palatis.app, the Palatis apps and everything in them. Creating an account means you accept them. If you are accepting on behalf of a household, you confirm you are allowed to.

Who you are contracting with

Palatis B.V., Keizersgracht 271, 1016 ED Amsterdam, Netherlands, KvK 89 214 776, VAT NL004512882B01, represented by its directors Noor Abadi and Tomas Villasenor. In these terms we call it Palatis, we or us, and we call you you.

What the service is

Palatis builds a model of how you taste, then proposes meal builds from your craving, your goals and your pantry, with notes written by our partner chefs. It hands the missing ingredients to a grocery partner if you ask it to. It is a planning and suggestion tool. It is not a medical, dietary or allergen-verification service, and it does not cook. Read the Nutrition and Allergen Disclaimer before you rely on any number or any allergen flag it shows you.

Your account

  • You need to be 16 or older to hold an account. A Table plan holder may add a child as a managed palate and remains responsible for that palate.
  • Give us an email address that reaches you. Notices about billing, security and these terms go there.
  • Keep your credentials to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account until you tell us it is compromised.
  • One account per person. A Table plan covers up to six palates in one household, not six unrelated subscribers.

Acceptable use

Use Palatis to cook. Do not:

  • Scrape, crawl or bulk-export the build library, the chef notes or the flavor model, by hand or by script.
  • Reverse-engineer the model, or use our outputs to train a competing one.
  • Resell, sublicense or white-label the service, or run it for a commercial kitchen without a written agreement.
  • Circumvent rate limits, plan limits or the payment flow.
  • Upload anything unlawful, anything you have no right to upload, or anything designed to break the service.
  • Use the flavor coach to solicit medical advice or to plan harm to yourself or anyone else.

Serious or repeated breach lets us suspend or close the account. Where the breach is fixable we tell you what to fix and give you a reasonable window first.

Your content, and the licence you give us

Your pantry photographs, notes, ratings, recipes and comments stay yours. To run the service we need a limited licence: a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, copy, transmit, resize, index and display your content for the purpose of operating Palatis for you and your household. That licence ends when you delete the content, subject to a short backup tail.

If you choose to publish a recipe or a swap to the community library, you grant the same licence plus the right for other users to view, cook and adapt it inside Palatis, and you accept we may show your display name beside it. You can unpublish at any time; copies other cooks have saved to their own libraries stay with them. We never sell your content, and we do not use published community content in advertising without asking you first.

We may use de-identified build outcomes — this build was cooked, this swap was accepted — to improve the model. That data carries no name, no email and no dietary flag, and you can opt out in Settings without losing any feature.

Our content and our partners

The Palatis software, the palate model, the flavor map, the interface, the wordmark and the illustration are ours or our licensors'. Partner-chef material — technique notes, base builds, the playbook the coach draws from — is licensed to us by chefs including Chef Amara Sene and Chef Rafael Duarte and is protected by copyright. You may cook it, print it for your own kitchen and share a single build with a friend. You may not republish it, put it in a book, in a video description or on a competing service.

Partner and grocer names on this site are the marks of their owners and appear to describe a partnership, not to claim their endorsement of anything beyond it.

Grocery hand-off

When you send a basket to a partner you are entering a separate contract with that partner for the goods. Their terms govern price, substitution, delivery, freshness and refunds. We pass the line items you approved, we may earn a commission on the order, and we disclose that in the Affiliate Disclosure. We are not the seller and we cannot resolve a dispute about a bruised aubergine — but tell us anyway, because repeated problems change who we partner with.

Plans, payment and cancellation

Free, Pro at nine dollars a month or eighty-four a year, and Table at sixteen dollars a month for up to six palates. Billing, the fourteen-day EU right of withdrawal, price changes and refunds are set out in the Subscription and Refunds page, which forms part of these terms.

Availability and changes

We aim to keep Palatis up and we publish planned maintenance in advance, but we do not promise uninterrupted service. Features change: we add, improve and sometimes retire them. If we remove something you are paying for, we tell you at least 30 days ahead and you may cancel for a pro-rata refund of the unused period.

Liability

Nothing here limits liability we cannot limit by law — death or personal injury caused by negligence, intent, gross negligence, or your statutory consumer rights under Dutch and EU law, which remain fully intact.

Subject to that: Palatis is provided as it is, without a warranty that a build will suit your taste, meet a macro target exactly, or be free of an ingredient a manufacturer added last month. Our aggregate liability for any claim is capped at the greater of the fees you paid us in the twelve months before the claim or one hundred euro. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and we are not liable for a partner's goods or a partner's delivery.

Suspension and closing your account

You can close your account at any time from Settings; the data consequences are in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend an account immediately for a security or legal reason, and otherwise on notice for breach of these terms. If we close an account you paid for, and the reason was not your breach, we refund the unused period.

Law and disputes

Dutch law governs this agreement. If you are a consumer resident in the EEA, the mandatory consumer-protection rules of your own country still apply and you may sue in your local courts. Otherwise the courts of Amsterdam have exclusive jurisdiction. Before litigating, write to [email protected]: most disputes end in an email. Consumers may also use the European Commission online dispute resolution platform.

Changes to these terms

Material changes are announced by email and on this page at least 30 days before they take effect. Continuing to use Palatis after that date means you accept them; if you would rather not, cancel before then and we refund the unused period.
